Submitting content to various sites, directories or blogs that contain backlinks to your targeted site is the long proven process of article marketing and it remains not only popular but very effective still today.
Lots Of Choices
The selection of the top article submitters available is vast and many of them are simply not up to par given today’s changing environment. Article submission is an evolving process as the rules are always changing. For example, with the recent Google algorithm changes, many directories are tightening up their submission standards. EzineArticle.com in particular has made many changes to their submission requirements.
Submission rules change in other regards as well. Because some abuse the article submission process, these sites and directories are getting more and more sophisticated and thus complicated to submit to automatically. Many are employing captcha codes for various steps in the submission process, for example. This helps to weed out the spammers and increase the quality of the submissions that they process.
Our Findings
We have used and tested dozens of different submitters, but in today’s market, there are only two that live up to the various requirements that we feel are important. Most of the submitters out there are several years old and based on very outdated technology. More important than that, however, is the support process.
An article submitter must be continually updated to be of any value. As stated above, the sites and directories are constantly changing their rules for submission and if the software is not also continually evolving and being updated, it will be of little use. This is the #1 concern you should have when selecting a submitter – how good is its support and how frequently is it updated?
Don’t Be Fooled
Don’t be fooled by the most deceptive marketing tactic which is to claim that the best article submitter is the one that submits to the most article directories. Measuring the effectiveness of the tool simply by the count of directories supported is a huge mistake. The count may be high, but until you actually try to use them you have no idea how valid those numbers are. Often times those with the highest numbers also have the highest failure rates.
After extensive testing and research, there are only two submitters out there today that meet our criteria for a contemporary article submitter program. That is a vital piece of information that most article submitters simply cannot provide you.
Many of the articles that are accepted and published are never indexed by Google because they are on lower quality article directories that don’t get a lot of Google love. That’s okay, what we’re after is links, so it’s alright that they are not the top directories, but they need to be indexed. But the key to this is that you must be able to extract a report of URLS from the program and most, sadly, do not offer that feature.
