The Ultimate Link Building Dossier Review
Overview
There are tons of products out there to teach you SEO and many of them are just plain bad. Worse yet, many actually can do you more harm than good. So when we first took a look at The Ultimate Link Building Dossier you can say that it was through “jaded” eyes. But the reality is that this is a pretty darn good overview of SEO and the more we read the more we agreed with the author, Duncan Carver, on most of what he had to say. For that reason we decided to do a full review here.
The product is not a service or program but rather an educational PDF – a 200 page PDF that goes into almost every square inch of SEO. This course is not for the experienced or seasoned SEO professional, but if you’re relatively new to SEO or even at an intermediate level, this is quality information that you will likely get a lot of value out of.
The Ultimate Linkbuilding Dossier is as much about the philosophy and mindset of SEO necessary to succeed as it is about the tools and methods. We really like that because you can’t succeed without both. I can take a brand new person, naive to SEO, and hand them all of the tools to succeed, but if they don’t have the proper understanding of what it takes to win at SEO, if they don’t have the right mindset, failure is all but guaranteed. To give you a little idea of the candor that Duncan hits you with, here is a small section of content quoted directly from the Dossier:

Good Things Take Time.
This got me thinking that nothing could be closer to the truth when it comes to search engine optimization – link building in particular. Having been doing SEO for clients (and our own projects) circa 1999, one thing that is always blatantly obvious, even to this day, is that most people have totally unrealistic expectations. They expect that by gaining 100 (or 1,000 – or even 10,000) incoming links to their websites that they’re going to shoot right to the top of the search engine rankings within a matter of weeks. They’ll try one SEO technique whether that be a specific service, program, method, etc and when they don’t see results, then move on to the next. They then continue on in this fashion thinking it’s impossible to become well established in the search engines. Worst still, in most cases they’re likely to blame whatever service / program / method / technique they’ve tried as being ineffective, when in fact, they just don’t realize that when it comes to search engine optimization ‘Good Things Take Time’. We ALWAYS make it blatantly clear from the outset that as a new client they’re going to want to keep the campaign running for AT LEAST THREE months before the true impact of that total campaign is reflected in search engine ranking improvements. Give the Ultimate Link Building Dossier a read…
As you can see, his approach to SEO is very similar to ours and he is also very candid like we are, so we like that. You’ll find similar straightforward and candid advice throughout the eBook on almost every SEO related topic or angle you can think of.
We get lots of emails from people asking us if there is a course that we recommend for learning SEO or getting a more in-depth understanding of it. In the past our answer has been “not really” because we just hadn’t found one that we were comfortable enough endorsing. While we don’t agree with every last word of this course, we do generally agree with it and feel that it is solid and valuable information well worth the price.
The Structure of the Course
Duncan Carver covers virtually every SEO related linkbuilding topic or strategy that you have ever heard of and many that you have likely not heard of. The course is 200 pages and very in-depth, but it is an “easy” read. That is one of the strong points of it. It is not written in a way that you have to be an SEO expert to understand. Those new to SEO should do fine with this course as it is pretty non-technical.
The first 50 pages or so cover various topics that give you the fundamental understand of SEO necessary to learn from the advice presented in the rest of the eBook. This is not an eBook you want to just “skim”. You want to sit down and read it from front to back and then read it again so that you really take it all in. If you jump around and skim trying to just pick out “hidden gems” here and there, then you really have missed the boat. There’s a saying that the successful people in life are those that finish reading the books they buy. That’s kind of an odd statement, but think about it. How many books have you purchased to read that you only skimmed or started but never completed? This is one that you will want to read from start to finish if you really want to get the value out of it. Some of the topics covered in this section include:
- Relevancy
- Link Diversity, Link Volume & Link Maturity
- Understanding Google PageRank
- Keyword Selection

After the first introductory 50 pages or so, the eBook dives into a 130 page laundry list of link types and strategies for using them (or avoiding them). You’ll find white hat information, gray hat information and an occasional caution that a particular strategy might be considered black hat. Like we said, Duncan is candid and doesn’t dance around the realities of the SEO world we live in. The last 20 pages or so are devoted to creating your link building plan and helping you map out your strategy.
What we like about the Ultimate Link Building Dossier
Our favorite aspect of this course is the attitude and philosophy that is taught. If you follow the approach that is given you will come away with the right mindset to be successful in SEO as well as armed with the knowledge necessary. This is not some watered down course that makes everything sound easy or that makes false claims of instant success. It follows in our mantra of “no BS” candid advice – we like and appreciate that.
What we don’t like about the Ultimate Link Building Dossier
Getting two SEO specialists to agree on everything, well, that’s pretty much impossible
The other thing that we would have liked to have seen is more time spent on the execution of your SEO strategy. The vast majority of the eBook is background information and education – all good stuff. The last 20 pages or so go into planning out your SEO strategy, etc… but that is the area we would have liked to see a bit more information on. But the fact is, he “arms” you with the knowledge to make those decisions on your own. All in all, both issues are pretty minor.
Summary
As we said at the top, this product is not for everyone. If you’re a seasoned SEO pro, you won’t likely find much new here. The fact is, if you’re a successful seasoned SEO pro, then you already know that it is more about action than knowledge anyway. This eBook is great for someone that has been doing SEO for less than a year. For anyone that is teaching themselves SEO and dabbling with it but wanted to improve their knowledge and skill, this is the a terrific course. We have seen (and purchased) many courses for $497 and more, that don’t offer the value of this course.

The Ultimate Link Building Dossier Pricing
Many will object to the pricing – that’s fine. But the fact is, that everything is relative. At $147 some will complain that it is expensive for an eBook. We, however, don’t feel that way. The fact is just one hour of our consulting time is $250 (and we’re cheap in this industry, you can easily pay $400 for many SEO firms). Also, you have to really step back and be realistic about pricing. It’s easy to dismiss this as being expensive, but ask yourself how much money you are wasting now by not knowing what you don’t know? The fact is most of the tools and subscriptions on this site range from $47 to $147 a month, so if you’ve got a couple and are not using them correctly, well, you’re already wasting more than the cost of this course. Personally, we feel the price is a bargain and have no issue with the price point. There are many courses online for SEO that are $79 a month, or $99 a month or $129 a month, etc… this is a simple one-time $147 expenditure that could easily make you many times that in return.

Hey guys,
I took your recent survey and was very intrigued at the idea of learning how to build my own link network. So my question for you is whether or not this ebook covers how to build link networks.
