Josh Spaulding’s Search Engine Empire Review
Overview
If you’ve been following the Internet Marketing or Article Marketing sector for any time at all you have likely heard of Josh Spaulding. Josh has created many acclaimed digital info products such as Article Marketing Domination (his flagship product), The Ultimate Link Building Report, Info Product Success Formula and others such as his Deep Link Pro directory submitter. Search Engine Empire is his newest release, jointly with Shaun Connell.
Josh’s products all have a similar flair that defines his style. He’s candid and straight to the point. You won’t find any 100 page eBooks from Josh because he really doesn’t dance around the topics much. Josh also doesn’t do many large ticket items and so you can be assured that he always over delivers. This product, like many of his others, is just $37 – and at that price it is a no-brainer. He tends to just dive in and cover the topic almost with a minimalist approach – telling you what you need to know and not much else. Search Engine Empire follows that same style and is just 43 pages of solid content, but you can’t measure the quality of a product by its page count.
So What is it About?
That’s a little bit of a tough question. The Search Engine Empire is kind of a mixed bag of Internet Marketing advice and tactics. It starts out with a good overview of the mindset of SEO that is needed for success – candid and to the point. Josh talks about why so many people fail at SEO and what you can do to ensure your success.
Next Search Engine Empire dives into the anatomy of setting up a search engine friendly website. This section is pretty brief but the content provided is unique and has a different twist on things. Josh covers some topics that most leave out, though he leaves out the basics that most cover as well. That’s probably not a bad thing as there is a ton of information out there that covers the basics.

In the next section of the eBook Josh and Shaun begin to guide you through their approach to linkbuilding. Now, it should be said, that when it comes to SEO, *everyone* has their own opinion. Josh’s approach and style is a bit different than ours, but it has done well for him and he’s had success in a very tough IM industry for quite awhile.
So, while we don’t necessarily practice some of the methods he teaches, that doesn’t mean that they’re not viable or solid advice. We tend to focus more on automation and large scale systems. Josh kind of takes the opposite approach and leans towards higher effort and manual processes but high yield as well. Again, everyone has their style and we certainly aren’t going to say anything negative about Josh’s because it obviously has worked for him. Will it work for you? That is really the question. In the end, you have to evaluate the type of SEO you want to practice and there are many factors that will affect that from your time, to your budget, to your experience level.
Josh’s approach to linkbuilding is very much in line with a blogger’s style of site promotion and that should not come as any surprise and Josh himself is a blogger as well and started his online career as an article writer. So his approach focuses more on branding within your niche and establishing relationships within your niche – all good stuff and very effective in time. All of his suggested approaches are based upon white hat and well established SEO principals.

What We Didn’t Like About Search Engine Empire
This is being a bit nitpicky, but we feel the coverage on some topics is a bit sparse. For example, in section two about building an SEO friendly website, there is really a lot of meat that is left out here. Now we like Josh’s angle and what he does cover is a “fresh perspective” and not just a rehash of the same ole same ole, but it just feels a bit “light”.
Josh takes a bit of a stand against article spinning and that’s fine – this is a very touchy subject and fiercely debated online. But actually we agree 100% with what he says as his main issue is with “automated spinning” and poor quality spinning – both of which we agree with him on. But it kind of comes across like there are no good uses for article spinning and we feel that a quality spinner like The Best Spinner is a tool like any other. It can be used properly and it can be abused. Used properly, article spinning can allow you title variation and anchor text variation that is very helpful in article marketing efforts.
Summary
If you’re looking for an overview of what to do and where to get started, this is a good eBook for you. If you’re looking for a detailed A to Z discussion and coverage of SEO, well, then we would recommend you pick up a copy of The Ultimate Link Building Dossier instead as a companion to our free 60 page ebook.
