Overview
We have had our eye on an Article Ranks review for sometime now but just couldn’t seem to find the time to get around to it. Well, we got around to it. If you have read our article submission faq, Article Ranks falls into our public blog network. It is a service very similar to MyArticleNetwork or SEOLinkvine, however the network itself is smaller. At the time of this writing the only place we found stating the size of their network was on one of their blog posts saying they now have a few thousand sites. Also their website does make mention of the fact that for each article you submit you can get 20 – 300 backlinks, that is approximately the numbers we see with MyArticleNetwork which has a network of about 20,000 blogs. I highly doubt Article Ranks is as large as MAN but I’m sure it’s sizable nonetheless.
As previously stated, the premise is extremely similar to what SLV and MAN offer. A user can join for free and add their site and then receive free content for their websites from paying members. This concept has been proven to work by the likes of ArticleMarketingAutomation, Web2Mayhem, MyArticleNetwork and SEOLinkvine, and even Unique Article Wizard to some extent. So the idea is not new, but if you are a regular reader of this site, you know we love as much diversity as possible, so Article Ranks provides us yet another network of websites to publish content too. How wide of an article distribution is yet to be seen, we just submitted a few test articles and are awaiting results, so we will be reporting back on that.
Spin Away
When submitting your articles to these networks you really want to be posting unique content at all times. Most private network accomplish this by requiring you to only submit unique content per post, and most public networks accomplish this by allowing you to spin. We love the spinning aspect – more distribution, more backlinks, more bang for your buck, for much less effort. Article Ranks allows you to spin your articles in a few ways. First you can paste your spin ready article right into their text editor, which is what we do and prefer. But for those that write their own articles and don’t like to mess around with spin syntax Article Ranks also allows you to paste in your unique article and then rewrite a version of each sentence one by one, up to 10 versions of each sentence. Another pretty cool feature they have is that you can take your existing sentence, and hit their spin assist button and it will recommend some synonym replacements to make each sentence unique, rather than rewriting each sentence. This is a manual process, so while some of their suggestions may not make sense, you are doing it manually so you have the option of selecting another word or skipping it altogether. Either way, as far as spinning goes, it’s a decent tool. The fact that it allows you to spin via a few options is very useful to people of all levels of expertise.
For quality spinning work, we recommend that you manually spin 2 to 4 versions of each sentence and then run it through The Best Spinner for all of the synonym replacement work. While this approach is a lot of work, the results are very good and produce much more unique and readable content. The search engines are not dumb and are not so easily fooled by simple synonym replacement alone. Another great way to improve your spinning results is to create optional sentences and even paragraphs as well. This gives even more diverse content results.
The Structure
Article Ranks requires you to submit an article that is at least 300 words in length after the spin. They also allow up to 3 backlinks within your article. However their editor does not seem to recognize your linking within a spin, so for an article that will have 3 links when complete, you need to make sure you contain your anchor text within a nested spin. Also as of April 2010, Article Ranks began accepting static html sites as well, not just blogs like AMA, MAN, SLV do – why is this important? Well again diversity – you don’t want all your links coming from WordPress blogs. Diversity is the key, diversify keywords, anchor text, backlinks, the more diversity in your SEO campaign the better.
Other Features
The features are as highlighted earlier, two forms of spinning, copy and paste a spin ready article or work your way through the manual process of rewriting by sentence. We love options. Another very interesting concept that Article Ranks has is that they allow you to do a pay as you go service. Meaning you can sign up for a free account and simply pay $2 per article submission, they do offer a monthly fee as well. But for the casual users who simply want to distribute a handful of articles, you can simply pay $2 each time without a monthly contract – now that is very cool. They also give you stats on how many times your article has been distributed, rejected, etc… so you can see how things are going.
The Results
We just started our tests, so we don’t have actual results to report back yet. However I can assume what will happen, we will get our articles published on many sites, some will get indexed, some won’t, most will be of lower PageRank. But who cares, its more links, and more diversity. Either way this is pure speculation at this time but you better bet we will be reporting back shortly with our Article Ranks results.
What We Didn’t Like About Article Ranks
What we most disliked was the fact that we had absolutely no way of controlling our distribution. I would like to see a feature where I could select the number of maximum submissions per day. As it stands now we hit publish and let it roll, Article Ranks says they drip the content but we didn’t see anywhere stating at what rate it is dripped. Additionally we like to see some form of organization, where we could create projects and place articles within project folders so we could organize our articles. When you start submitting dozens and even hundreds of articles finding that one article you want to edit can become a challenge. We would also like to see some better instructions, they didn’t have much. Not that we needed much, but others may need more assistance.
Pricing
This is where ArticleRanks really shines. The monthly service is $39 a month for unlimited article submissions, this is cheaper than their competitors but keep in mind the network is currently smaller than its competitors as well. However what makes them stand out is their “pay as you go” service. You can purchase credits which will basically cost you $2 per article distribution – that is dirt cheap! If nothing else its worth using a few times for each of your sites at that price just for link diversity.

Ive been using AR and some other very well known blog networks and can say AR is actually better than a very high profile service that is doing the rounds right now.
The quality of sites is, so far much better, the price is much cheaper and there are plenty of pingbacks so you can go and ping and bookmark those pages to make sure the search engines get them cached.
If I was to choose just one network, this would be it, coupled with a one off payment for a article directory submission software program.
I dont include Build my Rank, Linkvana or Blog blueprint in this as I believe they are very different in their approach.
The system is very easy to use once you know how (I use magic re writer and output the spyntax in AMA form which AR accepts).
If posts were automatically pinged and bookmarked I would be giving a overall rating of 5 stars.

We’ll take an article and shove through all three of them in about 5 minutes time total – the “trifecta” of services as they all support the exact same content format and very similar interfaces… and of the three, Article Ranks is the most affordable.

We don’t plan on doing a full update for these features, but here is the long and short of it. In our opinion the justification for the $89 is just not there *unless* you are promoting a lot of domains. Now, we personally upgraded because we do SEO on so many domains the price is worth it to us. For the average user I would suggest rather than upgrading just for the social promotion that you instead grab another service for more diversification – such as Build My Rank or Linkvana.
We don’t, however, feel the upgrade is warranted just for the social benefits alone.
